Cliparr edits and exports media in your browser. Local files stay on your device.
WebCodecs support
WebCodecs support is the main browser requirement for Cliparr’s media processing and exports. Use a current browser with support on your device. Check your browser and version in the WebCodecs compatibility table on Can I use, including the separate entries for desktop and mobile browsers.
Supported codecs still vary by browser, operating system, and hardware. WebCodecs availability does not guarantee every source or output format will work. Cliparr reports unsupported export configurations. See Export settings for available formats and limitations.
Secure access
Use HTTPS when accessing Cliparr from another device. Local localhost and 127.0.0.1 access also meet the secure-context requirement for browser media APIs. An HTTP address on your LAN does not. See Configuration.
Installing as an app
Installation adds a launcher for Cliparr; it does not add codecs or remove browser export limits.
- Android and desktop browsers: Use the browser’s install option when available. Cliparr can also show an install prompt on supported browsers.
- iOS/iPadOS: In Safari, use Share → Add to Home Screen. Cliparr offers installation guidance on these devices.
- Desktop Safari: Use File → Add to Dock when available.
Troubleshooting
- Open Cliparr over HTTPS, or use
localhostwhen testing on the same device. - Update the browser and retry a short selection with the intended output format.
- Read the export error. Try a supported format or source, and review the audio and FLAC limitations before changing formats.
- For large exports, shorten the selection or lower video resolution.
For media-server connection or live-update problems, see Providers.
